Mountain Road Trip
The 2004 X3 2.5i (with 236000 km on odometer) ran perfectly for a 12-day 3,625 km total road trip from Saskatoon west through Alberta and into the mountains of BC to the west coast at Vancouver, and back home through different highways.
Total fuel consumption 327.4 Litres .... so 9.0 L/100km; or 31.3 mpg (26.1 miles per USgal).
I used to do this type of solo road trip one or two times per year in my E30 but now that it has a disabled transmission, my wife and I take the E83 X3. Not quite the same handling capability on the mountain road curves but still a good stable handling ride.
I get people telling me that I need a new vehicle to be reliable on the long distance road trips..... I just smile and reply that this 15-year old BMW just might last until someone takes my license away..... or pries the keys out of my cold dead hand!

... forty-three years of driving before I get behind the wheel of a BMW .... and I am thinking, "why did it take me so long?"
... and then after another 4 years I can't believe that I have two of them !!
