I finally have been able to drive the car now on a regular basis. Seems like there is no fuel pressure when i first try to start. If i put the key in and immediately try to start, it just cranks. However, if i turn the key to on for a sec or 2, it starts every time. New pumps and gas tank. No issues once running. Is this the fuel pressure regulator or is it something else?

it sounds like that check valve, which sucks because you just put a new pump and all the other stuff in. unless your regulator is leaking down but I think you checked that previously
No e30s again.
where is the check valve located? cannot find it on realoem. everything behind the absorber back is new in the fuel system.

that's why I say that it sucks. I don't think its the regulator since it runs fine. I don't know since its only occasionally, it could just be something dirty or sticking and then it works itself clear for a while. its hard to say with that type of stuff

what are the symptoms of a bad fpr?

can be hard start. can be won't idle. can be rich running condition. can be a number of things.
take the little hose off the end, but the end at the intake. it should hold a seal if you put it in your mouth and suck on it like a straw. it should stick to your tongue if its not leaking when you suck on it and cover the end with your tongue. quick easy check for the diaphragm to be good

ok... ill check and get back to you.

one thing about the pumps i did notice though... if i prime them or jumper at the relay, the main pump does not sound like it is starving. I dont think they check valve is the problem. Leaning towards the fpr as the issue.
