Hi. I lowered the wipers on my 05 Z4. They are now lower on the horizon when at rest. I did this after driving around with the wiper system removed while waiting for parts. I loved the look of having no wipers, so when I reassembled the system, I found the wipers at the original rest place was bothersome.
So, I did the following:
1. reinstalled the wiper arms one notch closer to the base of the window.
2. Reversed the passenger wiper to be a smile and lo and behold it cradles just nicely, and sweeps just as well.
3. Bent the driver wiper arm so the end is parallel with the main arm and installed the straight wiper as usual.
Notes: Make sure the driver wiper blade doesn't touch the main arm. That means the arm is bent too far.
The arms do not hit the plastic cowling even at max wipe speed because the movement is tight (no play in the mechanism).
Comment: Yes, there is a larger un-swept gap between the driver windshield pillar, but the difference is only an inch. However, I avoid driving in the rain, and never in winter.
Result: It nice not to "see" the blades (so much) when driving, and the car has a sleeker look.
Enjoy.
