    E39 Fitment Question

Hope everyone is doing well. I purchased a 99 540i and am in the process of restoring it. I know eventually I will get to the wheel and tire setup so I thought I’d be a bit proactive and ask a question about a specific set of wheels that I am in Love with.
Now I have searched, not really found an answer or seen any pics supporting my idea. So I hope to get all my answers here as I always do so Thanks in advance.

    The Car:

As mentioned before 99 540i sitting on some cheap coil overs and stock wheel liners (non M5 in the rears)

    Wheels I want:

ESM Style 005 silver finish https://images.app.*******/PEwhKwg3ngq18GEr6

I saw two options for an E39 first set up was a staggered 18 by 9.5 fronts and 18 by 11 rears
eventhough I love the staggered look it seems that 11s in the rear would be far too aggressive not a fan of stretch/poke or smaller tires to make things fit. I don’t want to go that route if it requires something more than throwing on a set of wheel spacers.

The second option is a square set up of 18 by 9.5s all around. BTW I believe the offsets on these wheels are all +22

    1) So my question is can I make Option 1 work with just a set of M5 rear wheel liners and spacers all around.

    2) If option 1 is not feasible, are 9.5s too wide for the front of these cars and does anyone have pics of a square set up of 9.5s all around.

    Thanks All.

Here is a link I found of a an e39 running these wheels. It looks like 11s in the rear but I could be wrong.

    Hi,

9.5 on the front can fit/work no problem, I've run my 9.5x19 Hartge's for years now. Offset on this set of mine is ET22 all round. 11 on the rear is aggressive but can be done and by going with wider tyres with the right profile, you don't get the (overly) stretched look. Depending on how low your ride height is, you might have to perhaps roll or pull slightly the arches to ensure theres less chance of any catching/rubs etc.

The wheels you refer to are close looking versions of the ACS type 1 wheel which were of the E36 era. The E39's had the Type 2 and type 3 racing/non racing versions for it's era. with these ESM 18 inch versions, given their deep lip design, I'd suggest to run your ride height 'quite' low - not silly low though.

Take a look at the E39 section here and other forums for literally thousands of pictures of E39's on 18 inch aftermarket wheels.

    Cheers, Dennis!
