Power Steering dual pump and tiny filter

34511159666 This filter is like a bazillion dollars. NO! I tracked down the numbers from a photo and found this filter.

    Part No. UC-R-1229-16

As there is no photo, who knows? But the name and numbers match up. It is also cheaper in EURO However; shipping cost is assstronomical!

    Anyone?

That tiny part has a diameter of a coin, my buddy has that on his 750 (my 1989 750 does not have it), he cleaned it with brake cleaner and re-used it. Pelicanparts sells it for $57

Hmm... I dont recall such a thing when I rebuilt mine. Looks like price is about $50 USD. With that said pics clearly show all metal construction. So I agree, clean it up and you should be good.

I found a sonic bath with cleaner worked great. break cleaner wasn't working so good. Looks new now. but the pleats are damaged from the force of being clogged and the pumps extreme suction ability. part 14. http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E3...l_pipes_asc_t/

Here is some video of the cleaning. I used a soft toothbrush between the pleats very gently to agitate the sediment off the pleats. About a large teaspoon of cleaner. And water temperature was around 135F(57C). I used hot tap water.

I recommend anyone with this filter system to check the filter and clean it regularly. It's of quality to be a lifetime filter. Good old German quality! If it clogs, it could ruin it. It should only need a good sonic bath cleaning to keep in service a lifetime.

The thing is that its not the primary filter, so I do think its meant to be a lifetime part. But these vehicles are pretty old, so there is that too. The wrong fluids may degrade the interior of the lines also. The main filter is in the bottom of the reservoir.

YES! The system seems to have three filters(Maybe more?). Reservoir, LAD and the power steering box. I recommend checking and cleaning them all or replace at some point.

On the older 750 like my 11/88 only 2 filters = reservoir and inside bottom of steering box. This tiny filter that you cleaned now is only on E32 equipped with ASC+T

So it looks like that filter is especially to protect the ASC+T unit

Thank You Shogun. Yes indeed. I do agree. The LAD system. As I searched for info on this system and the pump and couldn't find anything with good details. I made this post for others to find if they need. Hope it helps the people in need! 20190528_065001.jpg

i have the same untrasonic cleaner and WOW I never thought of doing that to my tine ASC+t filter at the front of engine... could perhaps solve my ASC+t light thats come back, even after rebuilding the tandem pump with new seals...
I swear, my cars are like a girlfriend.
Sometimes its a rough ride, sometimes its smooth motorin'.
Sometimes she doesnt like how i treat her and sometimes i dont like how she behaves.
BUT at the end of the day, she loves it when I am inside her.
