2007 e90 328i overheated - options?

Hi.

I know is tricky to fix these engines once overheated.

any point trying to resurface the head and reinstall the head gasket or just buy another engine?

Describe the overheating event. How long was the engine run after you noticed it overheating? Did you see white smoke out the exhaust? Does the engine run? Shutting off the engine right as it starts to overheat can save it.

Is the electric fan on at high speed, did it loose coolant? We haven't had to replace one engine because of overheating in this model

Right. The N52 engine will usually turn itself off before it turns into a boat anchor. I have never replaced a single N5x engine due to overheating.

so guess what, this is exactly what happened. The engine turned off but I'm not sure how and why (someone else was driving).

And now I replaced the affected hose and guess what? It is back alive.
