    Mirror, Stereo, Steering Wheel Memory.

Hey, I’m working on my $500 project 2001 E38 740il. I’m held for parts and thought I’d tackle another issue. When leaving and getting into the car after short periods of time, everything like the stereo and steering wheel return to original settings, but if I let it sit for several hours the steering wheel will not lower, only extend and the stereo will go to default. All other settings seem to stay like the clock and date, but the DSP goes to flat setting and I have to pull my stored setting. Any one place this can all point to to begin troubleshooting? Key? Memory module? Thanks in advance!

My first thought would be the ignition switch. It can cause odd glitches like that. If it were mine, I would try a battery nap. Remove the battery cables for 20 minutes or so. Touch them together for a minute before putting them back on the battery. This is know to fix glitches as well. Has worked for me on more than one occasion.

Take a look at this for the iggy switch.

Thank you! Good idea. Although I’ve heard of the numerous ignition switch faults and the odd demons they cause, that had escaped me as the potential issue. I will look into it for sure.

I have had like 4 weird errors that disappeared immediately after I replaced the ignition switch.
