You could have called a few shops and gotten real quotes in the time you spent making this thread.
Not really and I live in Mississippi and trying to help the daughter of a friend aboard a US Navy ship in the Persian Gulf. Sorry for the poor etiquette.

cost for?
Shop price to remove and replace. Fix the leak in other words.

Most indie shops here in SoCal charge about $125 an hour for labor. Not sure what the book time is on that, but hopefully that helps a little. A friend of mine in Escondido has a shop. If you're sure that's where the leak is coming from I can have him get a quote.

Well, the rear main seal parts are not expensive (about $100), but the labor is pretty intensive and a pita if you are doing yourself. Factor in about 3 or 4 hours professional mechanic work.
Frankly, if the leak is only a couple drops overnight, just live with it...!!
Thanks from everyone. Car is in Sac. Apparently more than a few drops but I can pass this on to her I will stay over on the 8 or Alpina forum side now.

Stating the obvious here and I understand you can't check the car in-person, but be sure that any leaking is absolutely from the RMS. It's rare for the RMS to leak on its own. A poor installation or certain symptoms like excess crankcase pressure I suppose could cause it to fail, but oil from some other typical sources of leaks (oil filter housing gasket, vanos line, valve cover gasket) has a way of collecting and dripping off, right down there at the bottom of the interface between the block and bell housing. Not a few techs have misdiagnosed that as an RMS leak. These other sources are far easier to deal with, thanks to being located on the top or side of the engine.
Stuff happens. I had a rear main seal leak at around 90k miles. I think book time is around 8 hours. It will take an experienced tech around 5 hours to do the job...the exhaust comes off, the drive line disconnected, transmission removed, etc just to get to it. The swap of the seal is pretty quick...then back together.
