520I I can't get the new water pump to stop leaking.

Hi guys, so I had a thread about changing the water pump on my BMW 520ia M52 this winter. I bought the Hepu pump as most of you recommended and it works as it should ,car runs cool with an exception that it still leaks. I think that it leaks a little bit only when the car sits for a long time and it's cold outside, i'll find a few drops beneath the car. It doesn't leak if the weather is warm.

So i suspect the pump itself is OK and the problem is in main seal, a mounting surface or i didn't torque the pump correctly. I used the 89 inch pounds/10,1 NM of torque (using a cheap torque ratchet) . Is this correct?

I also lubricated the rubber seal prior to the installation so it couldn't get damaged and i am fairly certain that i cleaned the mounting surface properly. But i did notice a tiny scratch on a "block adapter " mounting surface so this could maybe get the water past the seal when the seal gets cold and it shrinks.

I think i have a solution for this. I am thinking of buying a temperature resistant silicone ,take the pump out and just make a thin layer over the outside pump's mounting surface around the screws etc. Do you think that's OK to do that? Or do you think i used insufficient torque?

    Thanks

I'd use this on both sides of the gasket.

Thanks for the link. I had something like this in mind. Gotta check if it's sold in EU. Do you mean to apply it on the inside rubber ring gasket or on the pump's mounting surface or both?

Yeah tnx,i hope so too, but i think it will since it's a minor leak. Those engines are great but they just love to leak. Well at least my coolant will be flushed this way without having to drain the block and hoses, bcs when i'll open it again i'll loose around 6 ltrs of coolant again.
