    Door lock switch wiring

Forgive me if it has been posted, but I tried diligently to find it. My center console door lock button never has worked. I got a new one, went to replace it, and ha! There is no wiring to the switch!?! Is this normal? Could the wiring be hiding(I have looked very well without pulling the console)? Is this an option for door locks? If so can anyone point me in the direction for wiring this in. I am very good at wiring and have looked at the diagrams for the e36 in my Bently, but cannot figure it out. Any feedback is appreciated. I have my alarm wired into the main unit so it unlocks and locks my doors, but I would like to unlock the pass door without opening my door. Thanks everyone!

Member shogun has a link for good electrical diagrams, ask him.

A 1992 was too early for a central locking switch. I once retrofitted one to a friend's 1995 UK 318is, and had it pulse the alarm (remote IR) lock and unlock inputs. I used a relay and a few small electronic parts to "steer" each press to the opposite, alternate input.

Life is much easier if you just want to unlock the car. That might need just the switch, and perhaps a couple diodes if the alarm grounds the unlock input when it isn't pulsing it with 12V.

I think Johnf is right, I also have a 1992 and mine has no auto locking. I am guessing someone changed the center console with a newer model and it just turned out it had central locking hence why they didn't connect anything to that button. I'd put some LED lights and tie that button on to it, might give it some use

Thank you guys. This was exactly what I was thinking. The previous owner was very good at putting on newer model m3 stuff so I am just chasing unfinished projects. Thanks again everyone!
