I want to get the traditional intake sound out of my car. I don’t want the rip off Dinan, nor do I feel wrapping my filter with their sock puppet. I don’t like their design asking for everything under the sun to hit it. Can’t find anywhere a short ram? “Help” But im still unsure as the M already has a GREAT set up. Just looking for some extra tone when I get on it with out losing HP like some set ups. Any ideas?
Remove your stock airbox, flip it over and remove the phillips head screw. Slide the "baffle" out of the box and try it that way. Might be just the sound you're looking for, for free.

You WANT a short ram? One hot air intakey boi?
Factory system is good. On e36s people debaffle the intake box. "Fogged" they call it? Idk if that applies to z3s all of mine came with "rip off dinan cai" as you would probably call em (though really dinan did not invent metal tubes for intakes)
Tim95. I want to try that. I’ll look tomorrow. Breaker, no I don’t “want” a short. I’m new, and everything I seen on my car and what I’ve read “thanks forum” is the M intake is a cold. It is. I’m not chasing a few HP. I’m chasing a little intake sound at WOT without losing what’s stock. Hp wise and mostly hardware wise. Thanks guys.

Dinan’s set up is nice but the factory’s on an M is pretty much exactly the same minus filter location? Or no?
The Dinan CAI has a metal tube that takes in air from down behind the front bumper near the brake duct, the stock M system has a plastic duct piece that vents air from around the kidney grille and behind the headlight as well as an air duct directly from the driver's side brake cooling duct.
Tim's post wasn't up when I posted reply but thats exactly what I meant as far as debaffling it. It should allow a little more noise through the stock intake system.

can you buy the M intake parts and adapt to non m?
Breaker thank you. Tim thank you.
If you haven't already done so, deleting the viscous clutch fan will also improve the sound. Instead of hearing the fan noise, you get the pure, sweet music from the engine.
