    1988 BMW 750il DIY

Hello, bought my old grandpa 3 years ago, from that day practically i rebuild the whole car with shoguns and sean and other guys info and tips. I am professional upholstery guy from Sarasota FL so i have patient and patient to do tidious job i was in those car since i was 10 years old i knew all wrenching basics worked on my offroad bikes where everything needs to be perfect that engine work perfectly so i had basic for all the jobs, Big thank you guys who wrote all diy fixes and tips BIG BIG THANK YOU.

    Ok about e32 m70:

    1. Engine bay valve cover gaskets.
If you guys see leak on valve covers I encourage you to replace them, job is not hard just tidies, for intake manifold i didn't used swivel (mine extensions were beat up so it worked as a swivel) i just used two long extension 1/4 and short not deep 10 mm socket, while you there i would replace like that battery cable, ofc Banjo bolts !!!! Mine were holding on maybe two threads. Also I replaced all fuel hoses, water pump, ofc spark plugs, alternator ( wiggled it out through top without taking radiator, you have to play with it its like those puzzles at one point it comes out), both belts and tensioners (they are weird i load them and they squirted oil on me i though that i broke it but it seems everything ok), without intake manifold it is piece of cake to work on m70. Good luck.

    2. Ok ok mine upper oil pan gasket well I ignored it, to the point where started to see that gaske by it self are slipping out, then i said ok its time.
Well this is the most difficult job because i am tall and the lift is not that tall, I REALLY RESPECT THOSE GUYS WHO WORKS IN SMALL GARAGES WITH A PIT OR ON THE CREEPER BIG RESPECT, procedure is straight forward support engine from the top, on the bottom i just lower subframe supported it I didnÂ’t disconnect no power steering hose, i know i know but no harm no fault, and upper oil pan goes put easy, be patient all car is like thos puzzles: do slow, grow 2 more pairs of arms and get 1 pair of extra eyes, but it comes out and goes in easy. But the problem that your back hurts and arms always up and eyes... Dont be afraid to drill holes in the cover, i used wide STEP bit go slow be patient AND DRILL HOLE KINDA CLOSE BY THOSE LOWER BOLTS I MEAN MORE TO THE BOTTOM AS POSSIBLE THAT GIVES YOU VERY EASY ACCESS TO THE BOLTS, with swivel and 1/4 extension, use flash light and you actually can see those bolts through the belhousing hole.

    3. Driveline

I had a a kick from 1 st gear to second and felt little vibration in the middle, and weird SUSPN LEVELING warning, but cars height was ok it does not drop or something, so i replaced CSB AND I FOUND THAT MY HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT BOX IS HANGING ON THE ROD AND BOTTOM FELL OUT OF ITS PLACE so i put washers and longer nut now car is in perfect height and driveline is in good line so it cured problems like shifting from 1to second the kick is more like not notisible and vibration is gone. You can slide CSB with the same bolt, dont forget to preload CSB it means install drive shaft both sides then install csb bolts and push CSB bracket forward to the tranny about 4 mm and then tighten CSB bolts thats it.

Car runs good like never before, shifts good, oil leak free I am very happy. Hopefully this info will rise your morale to do the job by your self, just gather as much info as you can before you go do something on your beemmer.

    Hey Vinaslinis,
Are you actively doing auto upholstery work in Sarasota or are you retired? I may be looking for some custom work in the next year or two.
