Hello everyone,
I have a an E34 M5 with B38 engine that I have made a turbo system for. Lots to say about that but I will just leave a picture here:
Want some help regarding cam timing. I put a thicker MLS gasket and timed the motor but one of the marks (intake) is slightly off, but as you know we are limited to changing a teeth in the sproket so I want to know if you consider this difference acceptable?
Actually, a little less overlap is not too bad for a turbo engine...
Here are the pictures - crank is at TDC, Exhaust cam is spot on and Intake cam is the one slighly off.
Slightly off intake
Spot on exhaust
Another picture of intake
Having trouble starting the engine and want to rule out the cam timing as a possible cause.
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Paulo
That small of a difference should not really affect the engine starting. It may change the power curve just a little bit, but nothing major.
Thanks Maxzzz. I actually used my head and realised I have in fact advanced the intake valve, increasing overlap. But I tend to agree with you. This is all a very small margin and should not change things significantly or stop the car from running.
Running out of ideas here and still can't start the damn thing.
Starting to think if I installed the intake valve in place of the exhaust... would this prevent the engine from running?
Any easy way to check?
Just found out its the same cam for intake or exhaust so that is not the reason...
If you're having a hard time getting it started, I suggest starting another thread with that as the topic line. You'll prob get more help that way.
alright if youre having starting issues you first need to see if you have fuel or spark. easiest test is spray some brake cleaner in the intake and see if it cranks up for a sec. if it does you have fuel issues. if it doesnt you have ignition issues.
