M44 oil change w/o proper filter housing cover tool

Don't know why I didn't order something to screw it off with.
Looked at it many times opening the hood and knew from our e39s that a socket breaks it loose soooooo much easier.
Yet, thought I could crank that sucker off by hand.
    No way

Wasn't about to go and buy something from Pep, Auto, or need a Nap, wasting 1/2 an hour that may/not have worked. Got a little creative.

A couple of taps with a hammer on a flat driver got it rotating just fine.
Took over by hand easy as could be.

Do you mean the wrench to turn the sprocket?

Not the best method, but I've done it. Since then though I purchased the tool set.

Wow I was even thinking about that but with a long screwdriver. What did you do undo the bolts enough to get that on there? I was worried about breaking a bolt but if that works too then that saves me 40 bucks for a tool I’ll never use again
