When the upper pan drops just before the sun does

Tomorrow begins reassembly, should be half as easy disassembly.... I hope.

Its easier because everything is clean, did you cut the holes in the pan or drop the transmission?

Cut the holes in the pan. Gotta do the same job on my other one too, should go a lot smoother too now that I know what I’m up against.

to repair something or just oil leak ?
never understood the big ,needless? , holes in pan and engine .... which must be the weak spot ... very small gasket surface at those places. Mine was severe leaking at that place after SC install… so i mounted a vacuum pump to eliminate pan pressure , more ... vacuum. No more leaks …

    Oil Leak

My oil leak was around the entire pan, pump was not going to help.

Oil Pan Structure back there is plenty strong even after you cut two big holes in it.

Yep mainly oil leak, needed new engine mounts too, but that was just easier to do with the sub-assembly out.

not agree @rjjablo , no matter where the leak or how many .... it's oil pushed outside by engine inside pressure .... due age the engine has more blow by creating a positive pressure …. which is of course worse with a SC.... so with a vacuum pump every leak is now pulling air in instead of oil out ( same for valve cover gaskets etc.. )

For me it works fine , no more leaks , running 0.1 bar vacuum. I can dial in more but no need and it can affect oil pressure … HP gains are only much further in vacuum and request special oil pressure items.... ( as dragsters use )

is this a oem gasket ( damaged by tearing it apart ) or was the pan ever mounted with only fluid gasket ??

What did you use to support the Engine, Thanks!

PS: I would put a thin coat of Reinzosil on both sides before tightening up the gasket, Great stuff.

    Gasket

I used a Jack under the transmission to support everything

Gasket was OEM and extremely brittle, I glued the new gasket back on with some Oil Resistant RTV

Wow, That's new to me! I would still use a board across the top as well, Thanks!

I used the same jack stand at the very edge of the transmission, though it still made me nervous that only the trans bolts are holding the engine on. Also my OEM gasket looked the same as the above pic and I doubt a vacuum would have helped either, though I do like that concept.

Just did mine (original) and it was the same as rjjablo. Looked more like paint peeling off than a gasket. Can't see how the leak wasn't a lot more
