Hitting the dyno again next Saturday - DUDMD M62TUB44 - What gear?

So next weekend I'm getting my 2nd dyno done. Only difference is the first time I was bone stock back in March and this time it'll have a DUDMD tune and a Magnaflow resonator and 14816 muffler.

What gear is best to do the dyno in? 4th or 5th?

1st time pulled 245HP to the wheels on a Dynojet. For some odd reason the torque numbers didn't show.

I'll post the numbers next Saturday.

    Thanks

According to the 420g gear ratios, 5th is 1:1, which is ideally what you want to dyno with. In theory, at least.

Thank you. I believe we did it in 4th last time. We'll do it in 5th this time.

If you are doing more than one pull do it in 4th and then in 5th so you have a good comparison to your last 4th gear pull.
I'm guessing your have about another 12HP gain with the DUDMD tune.

Thanks Jim, good idea. It'll be 3 pulls. I'll post them up next weekend. Or possibly after Bimmerfest.

4th gear has 1:1 ratio on 5hp24 transmission, not the 5th gear.

OP's car is a 6-speed manual, at least based on his signature.

Correct. 6-speed. Sorry for not clarifying in the original post.

stock you should be making about 310-315 at the crank , mine is a 97 with a few bolt ons and a tune as well as trans chip and I’m making a little more than 282 hp to the wheel which is around what they rated these cars to make at the motor. Definitely a very under rated vehicle by BMW!
Electric Fan conversion, 840Ci thermostat, Dinan style CAI,de-screened MAF, Dinan transmission chip, 255lph LS1 fuel pump, drilled slotted rotors, 3.15 differential, Bel rx65 radar (hard-wired). Hemi Killer!

The pre-vanos cars seem to dyno a bit higher from what I have seen. I believe it's is due to the intake manifold and the exhaust manifolds are more free flowing in those.

I'd like to see a dyno sheet.
282 at the wheels would mean you are make 340 at the crank.
A CAI and tune isn't going to give you 50+HP.

cai and dinan tune gives +20, i also have a clutch fan delete(electric fan), underdrive pulleys, cat delete, 255lph fuel pump, lower temp thermostat and 3.15 gears. Remember my car is a 97, so it basically has Dinan M60 Intake manifold, bigger throttle body and bigger MAF sensor, as well as better flowing exhaust manifolds. The Charger R/T Daytona hemi i beat weighed in 3900lbs and made 350 hp at the crank, i weigh about 120lbs less than him and beat him by 2 cars all the way from a traffic light to the time we got to 100.

Another question before the dyno this weekend. Last time we didn't get a torque reading. I'm guessing the shop had an issue getting the RPM signal. What's the best way to get this reading when on the dyno? What should we be connecting to?

Aux fan still runs on high, but turns out the new clutch fan was a Behr unit and did fine on the "newspaper test."

They usually clip or connect their cable to one of your coil wires.

Some dynos have a speed cap iirc. 5th gear at redline is up there, so they may need to do in 4th.

Initial thoughts on the tune are great. Not going to say the car is blindingly faster. What is amazing though is the drivability, greater throttle response, the power is under the curve, partial throttle power is improved. This is definitely worth it. Oh and the 6500RPM redline is nice as well.
