    lazy throttle response

    hello
I have a 09 X3 with extremely low mileage ... less than 30k ... when I first got it , i really hated the throttle response... at small throttle opening it is really lazy. you get to a slight incline and just squeeze the throttle a bit expecting the torque to just pull the thing up the hill and there is just nothing there... regardless of shift mode ... and I have to stomp the thing to make anything happen... then it rockets up the hill just fine. it runs at speed fine and if driven aggressively with lots of throttle and lots of revs its great but it is annoying to drive it normally. now... I know this is a fly by wire throttle and it strikes me as if the pot at the pedal may have a dead spot in it but does this sound familiar or reasonable ? is this a know issue ? there are no warning lights and no other bad behaviors of any sort. mileage is normal temps and pressures are normal. the other day , the throttle actually seemed to have no response at all. I was on a slight incline, stopped dead in traffic, traffic started to move and I stepped on the gas and it stayed at idle so I stepped again harder and further and away I went... car runs great except for this " dead spot at small throttle openings. ...

I read both those threads start to finish and I don't understand at all what you are trying to tell me... neither of those cars would start and run and by the end im not anyone actually knew why.

the more and more I read , hear and research of problems like yours the solution could very well be the need for: updated software and or a new ecu... don't know if that your solution tho...just an observation.

Cool I had a similar problem

My X3 developed a very lazy throttle response and it turned out that the engine was running in a failsafe mode due to a failure of the eccentric shaft sensor under the valve cover. In this mode the engine is throttled by the big stepper driven valve body just downstream from the air cleaner instead of throttling by the intake valves (aka Valvetronic). I found a P1017 fault when I scanned for codes, but it never triggered the CEL. After much research, that code is typical if the eccentric shaft sensor is intermittent, which can be caused by sensor failure or oil getting into the connector due to the sensor seal failure. This failure resulted in a distinct delay in throttle response especially from an idle. This makes some sense to me as the engine now has a huge vacuum volume between the throttle and the cylinders instead of virtually no volume when throttled by Valvetronic control. I fixed it by replacing the sensor which requires removing the valve cover (aka "cylinder head cover" in the TIS).

    Hope this helps,
