Since buying my E39 2002 Touring, it has shown a warning about front side lights. They function, and I did not care. So, 2 years later, the right side light circuits have become haunted !!! The blinks are a mess, and when both right side halos light up, so does the rear tail light. They will stay on for a while, go off, blink on and off, and so on. Anyway, bought a used on out of an 03 530i. Both are yellow stickered BMW/Lear pieces with the same numbers. After installing that one, it is warning about brake lights, and they are functioning properly.
The seller is insisting that it has to be coded to clear that. That will cost as much as the used piece did !! It is my understanding that coding the LCM will eliminate the tamper dot, and otherwise align it to the rest of the modules and instrument cluster. NOT sure about any of that except clearing the tamper dot by aligning the VIN.
Should a GOOD used LCM simply be "plug & play" except the tamper dot? Or is the seller correct? I am trying to avoid $500-600 for a new one.

I'd rather die or take a walk before driving an E60 or any BMW made after Y2K.
