Had an overheating issue so I replaced various hoses, coolant tank, and thermostat. Pressure tested so I know there are no leaks and it was bled correctly. For some reason now the ecu is saying the engine temp is 221-225 at idle but the upper hose is barely warm and the aux fan doesn't turn on. I know the fan is good and the lower coolant sensor has been replaced. The gauge stays in the middle but I'm not sure where the issue is. Any suggestions?
Is the heat coming out of the cabin heater HOT?
OE t-stat?
Yea it's coming out hot if I turn the heat on but other wise no, the ac blows cold it that makes a difference. I replaced it with a behr thermostat.
If the t-stat isn't opening the top hose won't get hot, same if the water pump isn't moving the coolant.
Can you pop the top hose off the radiator and see if it's full, if not add coolant unto it won't take anymore.
Did you check the water pump?
I rechecked the system and it ended not having enough coolant so I filled and re-bled and now it runs at 204 at idle and 208 on the highway. The cruising temp is kinda bugging me. Im not sure if I'm being paranoid or not but that feels a tad bit high for cruising. When climbing a hill the rpms jumped higher and the temp dropped to 185 and back to 204 after the hill leveled out and rpms dropped
Not sure how you can do all this work correctly and end up with low coolant immediately afterwards unless there is a leak or it wasn't bled properly. IMO the correct bleed procedure includes checking the coolant level a couple of times in the days after bleeding..
Anyway 204-208 F (95-98C) is a proper operating temp range for the M54 6 cyl engine. I think your temps are fine.
