    Seatbelt issue

I bought my car, with a rebuilt title. After owning for a while, it must have been in a pretty bad accident. I don't know if this has anything to do with the accident, but my driver seatbelt has always been very difficult to extract. Nkt sure about the others ones, as im the only one that is ever in the car. At any time, that I want to use it, I have to pull very hard and fast usually 3 to 5 times, before it comes out. Even when I unbuckle, I have to give it a little nudge for it to return to its original position.

yes replace it age also plays a part here, & if the accident it was involved in was that bad that it set off airbags then u would expect seat belt buckle/pre tensioner would also have been replaced.....so for your own piece of mind if it were mine id replace both parts(belt & buckle)

Yep, if airbags had gone off, the seatbelt charge would have gone off too, it does so for the passenger seatbelt too, if it had been occupied. If you have been able to break it loose to use it, imagine being involved in a new accident, and the belt mechanism letting go the same way it does when you hop into your car and do the routine you do to buckle in, replace it. Make sure you disconnect the battery before you unplug the SRS wire.

At 20 years old, like others mentioned, it could just be worn out. If the charge didn't go off (you can google for pictures - or check through the DIY forum), you can try squirting some silicone lube in there. Otherwise, just replace it.

Ummm... even though you said you are the only one that is ever in the car... are you not able to open the other three doors and try those seat belt buckle's out? Or reach over to the passenger's side... it ain't that far away!

As far as I know the E39 does seatbelt tensioning in a crash by retracting the buckle, not a charge in the belt assembly. Yours is probably just old, it may have been stressed in an accident, but either way you should replace it.
