    FOXWELL NT510 Diagnostics Tool Help

Does anyone have experience with this tool? I bought it brand new and more often than not I seem to be getting communication issues. Even when entering my vin manually it doesn’t communicate. None of the features work, like registering a battery or checking the airbag light. I get an airbag light that comes on and off randomly and I can’t get a code from it. It’s becoming useless this reader. If anyone is familiar with this unit please chime in. Thanks.

Have you jumpered the Pac-Manport or tried to read from the Pac-Man port? If you are reading through the 16pin it should only get emissions info iirc.

I thought I could access all the info via OBDII i guess not though. So if I get an adapter cable that I can use on my foxwell reader that utilizes the 20pin connection and on the other end is the 16 pin that will connect under the hood, will it read and do everything I need it to do using my reader?

    Hi,

I have the Foxwell NT510 scanner. I just used it a couple of days ago to run a scan on my E38. I plug it into the port in the engine bay (I bought the scanner off Amazon; the OBD2 to BMW connector also came from Amazon; it is a generic adapter and isn't the one that Foxwell sells).

With the scanner plugged in, I turn the ignition key to position 2 (accessories on) or start car. From the main menu, I typically select the BMW logo and follow the menu prompts to run an automated scan of the car. I have used it successfully to scan my E38 and E36. It reads the VIN automatically on my E38. I think it read it automatically for my E36, but am not certain (last E36 scan was a few months ago).

On the E38, I don't think there is a way to register the battery -- at least I thought I saw elsewhere on this forum that it was the E65/E66 and newer that required battery registration. The scanner will scan the MRS system. On my own car, it pulled 4 fault codes:

    11 - MRS Power Supply
12 - MRS Fault Lamp (AWL)
    1A - MRS Seat Occupancy sensor recognition 1 (SBE1)
F0 - MRS Internal Control Unit Fault

Overall, it seems like a decent scanner. Prior to this, I used the Peake Research scan tool that could read check engine light codes and do service interval resets. The Foxwell scanner is a step up and was affordable.

Get an adapter. Use the 20-pin port. It should work better for you. Will it do everything you want? Maybe; all depends on what it is you want to do... Make sure you follow the instructions for installing software updates. As reported in the FoxScanner v8.73 desktop application on my PC, my scanner is using OS-SOFTWARE v5.50, BMW v11.29, and OBDII v6.23.

Where would I find the 20-pin port on a 2005 E46 M3? You tube videos show a round canister with a screw-off (?) lid. Thanks

Pretty sure there is none on yours. You should just have the cabin connection.

Yep, e46 can read everything from the OBD2 port under the dash.

Thanks for the info. Diagnostic says "5E24/not present". Pressure sensor on master cylinder. Found its location, but how on earth can a person even get to it?
