I've read countless threads on this and there are countless discrepancies. I love the 2016 - 2017 X5M on paper and it drives as good as it looks but the X5 50i, on paper, seems to be a nice middle ground. In terms of price, there is an approximate approx. $20K delta which is sizeable but doable. I am leaning towards 50i as a nice middle ground but the horror stories are scary. Each thread is filled with happy and angry owners but the forums don't represent a good sample. At this point, do we know the 50i reliable? Is it the luck of the draw? Is it not a concern with a warranty? If so, does it make sense to go with a CPO to avoid dealing with aftermarket warranty companies? I realize 'value' is subjective but I keep going back-n-forth...

This is a multi generational X5 forum...and the X5 50i nomenclature is used for two different generations...please remember to identify what model year (or range) that you are asking about so that we will know if you're asking about the E70 X5 or F15 X5. This will also help us know which specific engine that is being questioned...the N63 or the N63TU (aka N63N).

2015 650ix GC (Moonstone/Cohiba Brown) <<~>> 2014 X5 50i (Space Gray/Mocha)
Thank you for pointing this out. I've updated with the F15 2016 - 2017 reference. It's funny/sad that I am losing sleep on this decision. I re-drove the X5M and it was a bit rough and a bit more SUV than what I'd prefer. I've had 600HP+ cars before but not with the kids in it With that said, 50i is a nice middle ground but the horror stories are scary.
