    Hello all,

I am looking for a metal sunroof cover for my 91 850i 6spd. Preferable in black. Thank you for any leads.

    Ha! Good luck...

After 10 or so years of waiting for a good 100% rust-free one to come up (in any color) I finally ordered a brand new one from BMW.

If you were to find one it will most likely have under lying rust issues. It is a common problem better to start with a new one imho.

Thanks guys. Mine was perfectly fine until I was driving north on interstate I 19 at 75mph. I never opened the roof since I owned the car, but the metal roof blew off and I watched it in my rear view mirror hit the freeway, luckily it was Sunday morning and very little traffic. The sunroof became slightly bent and I certainly need a another.

Yep, me neither....the first for everything. The plastic pieces underneath the metal sunroof were unknowingly broken. The few times I washed the car there wasn't any water inside the car. I guess the wind caught it just right and off it went. The car is not my daily driver and it is garaged all the time, so who knows. Previous owner was a bit misleading regarding the cosmetics of the car (gave me a big description of the paint correction done on the car, whomever did the correction burned through the paint in several areas that was not disclosed), therefore it does not surprise me that perhaps the car had some other hidden issues. The car will eventually need a paint job and I wasn't ready to jump into that project, but this sunroof issue may push that project forward. I also considered sunroof delete whether metal or CF, but that brings in a whole new level of work and $$$, but it would be cool...match my 09 M6!

Anyway, I found getbmwparts is 30 dollars cheaper than ECS right now for the new roof. I am going to call FCPeuro and get a price from them as well.

I could see the same thing happening to one I recently purchased, the previous owner had it taped to the roof in the rear and wood blocks holding it up on the inside. The plastic rails holding it on were destroyed and completely detached from the panel, one good bump on the highway and that thing was gone. I expected the repair to so much more difficult, but just purchase 2 new rails and it works perfect now.
