Hi to everybody, I got a 2002 E46 325Ti, and I'm having the issue described in the thread's title, I can't get no water sprayed from the rear wiper. Has anyone diagrams about the whole system, or maybe anyone knows of a very frequent cause to check first?
THX!
Mine does not work either I know the washer motor is up front in the bottle and the hose disappears as it goes back that's all I know, I thought about fixing it but.....
nice little car, I have the 05 e83...but here's what we did (and went through) to get to the solution...

start at #204
ends at #280 I think...we stop and detour a couple of times from rear sprayer problem...turned out to be a hose disconnect underneath the carpet passenger side rear...I was a man posessed!

I had a problem with audi S6 wagon rear washer...pump was fubar. Getting the new one in pissed me off because the new one (audi oem!) had a smaller OD into the washer bottle and I had to go to the stealer again to get the right size grommet. Gotta love backward-compatible parts...the new part should have had the grommet with the pump.
Thank you all for your feedbacks.
The problem is, my car has a dedicated water reservoir alongside right C-Pillar, so I don't think there is any line at all connecting the water pump on the back to the main reservoir located inside the Bonnet (Bonnet= motor cover or Motorhaube)
Does anyone here has a TI (AKA Compact) and met the same problem?
So where have you detected the leak?

Welcome to the wagon Fun!
Yes the typical problem is the wiring in the hatch. So if you open the hatch, on the right side near the hinge you will see a black rubber "Y" hose. That is where the cable for the wiper/wash system goes, and from the open/closing of the hatch, it will weaken the wire. What you can do is open the right rear compartment, where the battery is, and unhook the connector to the washer pump. Using a test lamp, and the hatch will need to be closed for this, push forward on the stalk. If the lamp doesn't come on, you would need to trace the wire to the breakage. It the light does come on, the you will need to replace the pump.
Where bout's in Germany are you? P.M. me if you like.

Hi, I'm in Bayern, but my German is very poor! I checked today the water pump, at least it runs. Maybe it's just clogged, I should still check it. I saw some little rusty drops coming out of the nozzle, I'm more and more convinced it's a coggled and long time neglected water line causing the problem.
Is the car new to you...do you know its history? it's not advisable to use a probe of any sort. finally have you found leakage?

Yes, and it's my first ever BMW. Well, it's meant to be more of a toy! No leaks discovered so far, but I didn't disassemble the trunk lining, just visually checked water reservoir and trunk's bottom looking for water strains or moisture.
You can jump the pump as the battery is right there. I it should be the Black/Red wire: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...r-pump/eqUbMDo
If you are from the Graf area, I will be in the Skills Center on Sunday 26 May from 0900-1600, ask for Darin the BMW guy.

The pump is working, or at least it's trying to do it. I can hear it spinning. I just downloaded and installed BMW's TIS, I looked at the instructions to replace the back washer, at the first available moment I will get rid of the trunk's lining, disconnect the water line and see if it will spill water when running, or if the water line is just broken. The main time's consuming task should be removing the lining to expose water tank and water line, I think.
Something else came to mind with those pumps, they have a metal shaft connected to a plastic impeller. If the water gets frozen due to the lack of correct washer fluid, it can break the shaft loose from the impeller. So while it can sound like it is working, but it's not.
