    Lower steering flex shaft?

Finally on the rebound with my 99 2.3 roady build, last year the upper column got new upper and lower bearings, but im not really feeling this OEM flex shaft design, i realise the shift is designed to crush in a crash, but seems a bit cheap to me. While i was pulling my motor, i leaned on it a few times, and it seemed as if it wouldn't take much to snap, just curious of a better alternative?

Some people use the vorshlag steering shaft: https://vorshlag-store.com/products/...shaft-assembly

The rubber flex disc is the part in the shaft that usually goes bad (due to age) in the steering shaft. It is not supposed to be replaceable, but some have successfully replaced it with the E30 steering flex discs. AKG sells a solid aluminum flex disc for the Z3 as well.
