    328d Diesel Particulate Filter Re-Generation

Car is a 2014 328d X-drive. Check engine light came on earlier this week, took it to my guy, and said the code that it is throwing is for a regeneration of the diesel particulate filter. Quick check on the interwebs says that the ECU should have provided a warning light, and notified the driver to drive at 40mph, at 2500 rpms for 10 min., and regenerated itself. That did not happen, now the check engine soon light is on. Any ideas as to how to get it to re-gen, or what I can do to repair it?

Get the exact codes, and post them here.
Not P codes, but BMW manufacturer codes. If your guy doesn't have a way to read those, find someone else. The system isn't terribly complex, so I recommend finding someone that understands them before you spend a lot.

There is no code for regeneration. Also there is no light when it regenerates.

It normally regenerates particulate filter every 300miles +- and depending on conditions. You wouldn't even know it's happening unless you were logging exhaust temperature.

I think you have another component that went faulty, and it will pause regenerations for safety of the components. But that's why you need to get the exact BMW manufacturer codes.

Thanks 328 Power. The light came on right when the car hit 60k. I think it's a maintenance light, but it shows on a reg. scanner as a re-gen code. (Brake light came on too, onboard computer says it's the front brakes, but I just did them about a month ago. I think it's an artificial count-down warning. The pads/fluid is fine.) I have an appointment with my euro mechanic next week.

It's my understanding that the LL04 oils are used in primary part to keep the particulate filter/cats clean. I've always used the Pennziol Platinum Euro L, LL04. Do you recommend anything else? I try to stick with brands that I can buy locally.

Also considering DEF deleting the car. It seems to go through a ton of DEF fluid (more than the manual says it should). I generally have to re-fill the tank at least two-three times per oil change. Car is off warranty now. I feel like I can play with it a little more. A programmer, an added 15-25 hp, + 5mpg, and no DEF fluid sounds like a huge bonus.
