Don't know the administrative code in your jurisdiction, but here in Ohio it's 25 years for historic plates.

25 here in NC as well.

Also, how much do you pay to insure it? When I bought mine, it did not add much to my policy at all.

We do Collector plates in Colorado, but it'll be a while (or never unless they change the law again) for me...12 more years by my count:

Vehicles must be (a) Model year 1975 or earlier; or(b) Model year 1976 or later that was registered as a collector's item prior to September 1, 2009; except that a vehicle so registered is not eligible for registration as a collector's item upon sale or transfer to a new owner; OR (c) A model year at least thirty-two years old unless the vehicle was registered before September 1,2009, and meets the requirements of paragraph (b) of this subsection (2).

I think ours qualify for classic but not historic in PA. I like driving mine all the time though, and I don't want to ever lose my black DARE plate so I'm not worried. I do want to get a BMW CCA one for my E34 though over the regular one. Its a cool Liberty Bell with M colors

Yeah, but I think you have to curtail your mileage quite a bit. I drive mine all the time too and wouldn't qualify for the classic plates.
