What model of E21 is your car? Is it a euro or US car?

Looks like you have some weight to add back on the car: interior, deck lid, hood, grills. lights, bumpers [the US bumper shocks are heavy] and then you might have the stock 320 spring hats that add height to the front suspension.

If you look up, on realoem.com, the spring hats for the euro 323 they are flat. The us spec spring hats have a pronounced dome to get the bumpers off the ground. As for the rear, Bilstein sports have the spring clip groves in the shock body that allow you adjust the spring cup height.

Which part is the "spring hat?"

I looked up the cross-reference in RealOEM for the "guide support" and the "upper spring plate" and both parts seem to have applications for both US and EUR cars.

Don't forget radiator and all the fluids.

Do the springs feel loose or are they pretty immobile?

Also I believe I had to take my car for a spin to let everything "settle" when first replacing the springs. It may sit artificially high at first.

This is the spring hat for a 1982 320, USA spec.

And this is the spring hat for a Euro 323.

Interesting! Quite a dramatic difference visually (and in price!). Thanks for the followup. Weirdly, I would expect the US car to have the taller one, not the reverse.

    Cool

It does look high, I installed Bavarian Auto Sport Lowering Springs and the height of the car went down 1.5" all the way around as measured from the center of the center caps to bottom outside edge of the wheel wells. The suspension is stiffer yet not harshly stiff, I used new stock springs as well.

I wasn't sure 1.5" would be enough but holy crap it feels like a slammed car. Maybe it's my Houston blood but I don't know how folks deal with truly slammed cars. Fearing for my oil pan...

Give us an update once you figure it out.

just lowered my car 40mm with the higher hats in the front. i used vogtland springs and bilstein B6. mine looked like these:
    IMG_1674.jpgIMG_1700.JPG
left side is with stock suspension, right is lowered with 195/50r15. so i dont know whats with your car but in my opinion sits much to high.
