    Side Skirt Seal/Gasket

I'm in the process of repainting my side skirts and just realized how expensive the side skirt seals/gaskets are ($70-80 a piece!). This is the part # 51712234044. If I'd have known they were such a steal I wouldn't have thrown them away after tearing them off the skirts, too late now!

Has anyone come up with an alternative solution? I just can't stomach spending $150 for about $10 worth of rubber. I am going to look for an off the shelf generic solution but thought I'd check to see if anyone has done a similar thing already.

    Thanks!

If you find something else post it. I’m about ready to have a skirt painted

    I'm using https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I just got my car back from the paint shop yesterday, so I haven't installed them yet. It's a little bigger than the factory seal, but it looks like it'll work. One 25' roll is enough to do both sideskirts.

EDIT: I installed this gasket, but it leaves about an 1/8" gap at the top. I'm going to give this a try next: https://www.mcmaster.com/75875A661

EDIT 2: Nope, that didn't work either. It's like a sticky malleable rope and doesn't make a clean line. On to https://clinchedflares.com/product/rubberseal/ next.

Yeah, I bought them a few years ago when I had a buddy paint some stuff for me, side skirts included. The seals and clips all around were the most expensive part, more than paint and labor.....lol

Post back once you have it installed - I'm in the same boat with this.

Yeah I need to replace the one on my driver's side, as half of it has ripped off. I never pulled the trigger since the replacement little piece of rubber was so damn expensive.

I just replaced my driver's side rubber Yesterday. Yup damn expensive, $79 for the rubber and a few more dollars for some clips I broke. Buy extra clips I broke 2 on install.

    Ooooh nice find.

That looks like it could very well work. yeah let us know how it goes, I'm putting mine back together in about a week. That's like 1/4 the cost too.

I went for the amazon one that was linked above and it does not work so well. the seal doesn't really mate up to the body above the side skirt. I think I'm gonna stomach the oem option. Also, those white clips are fragile, I just broke a brand new one trying to put the damn thing on!

I bought Clinched one, looks pretty good. I also grabbed a bagfull of e90 side skirt clips (yellow ones) at my recent junk yard venture and they look identical to the new ones I bought to play with for my m3. I won't be pulling skirts for another week or 2 though.

Clinched you can get here directly https://clinchedflares.com/product/rubberseal/
as for the clips: there are different p/n for clips door sill trim panel versions
When replacing the door sill trim panel clamps which hold the door sill trim panel/outer kick panel, there are different clamps for the different outer kicks panels, the clamp thickness is different, do NOT mix and buy the correct ones for your trim panel version.

    for
PRIMED LEFT OUTER KICK PANEL 51718190707
PRIMED RIGHT DOOR SILL TRIM PANEL 51718190708
    only use Clamp NATUR 51718184574

PRIMED LEFT OUTER KICK PANEL M TECHNIC 51712234187
PRIMED RIGHT DOOR SILL TRIM PANEL M TECHNIC 51712234188

Happy to say that e90 clips I yanked at the junk yard worked beautifully for my lux skirts! Rain moved in, didn't get to do the other side that needs a seal replaced - hopefully will get to it next weekend. BTW, I suspect that e60 use the same yellow clips - will check next time I go.
