    CD won't play

I have bigger potential issues I need to tackle, but this is one I can't find anyone with a similar issue on.

I have an '04 325xi 5-speed with the business CD head unit; no changer, not Aux installed (yet). It plays the radio and all the controls work fine. However, when I pop a CD in and switch it to that input, it just displays "NO CD" and stays silent. Disc pops in and out just fine.

Car is 196,000 miles (and the issues that come with it), and I bought it from probably the best indie BMW mechanic in town, for what that's worth.

Thanks for any suggestions. And if I have to, I'll just install the auxiliary cable and play music through my phone or an old iPod and not worry about it.

Now I am assuming you are using a burnt CD here.

The 03.2003 and newer head units are suppose to be able to play MP-3 files, however I think it has problems if they are inside a folder.

Also if you are burning with windows, make sure you click the "Use with CD/DVD Player" button.

No, original store-bought CD (Duran Duran Greatest if anyone's asking). Maybe I'd have better luck with Los Angeles by X?

No, they play fine in a folder if you're listening to a burnt MP3 Cd.

I have the Aux dongle already to install so I can listen to my podcasts. But I'm old school indie-record-store guy who just likes to be able to pop a CD in to listen to. I have too many CDs (many NLA) to be easy to just burn to my phone.

Now you are just dating yourself... lol

I would attempt another CD, or see if that one works in the house or other CD player.

I tried something else and it also didn't work. So it sounds like you've never heard of it just flat out refusing to play a CD?

In any case, I installed the Aux adapter this weekend and will be much-reluctantly switching from my Windows Phone to a more mainstream iPhone, so it'll be easier to play music from that if I don't figure this out.

Then that would tell me the CD player is bad. You could pull it out have take it to an electronic shop so they can have a look at it, but a 15 year old deck is exactly that.
