    Certified 2015 328i xDrive Sedan or 2016

    Hi,

I currently drive an older 2006 325i and am ready to upgrade. I've been looking at certified pre-owned 2015 and 2016 328i xDrives.

My question - do you think there are substantial differences in these two years? In other words, would you go for a 2015 with 15,000 miles versus a 2016 with 28,000 miles, assuming both had the similar packages etc. Both are in the $20-25K price range.

Anyone drive both years and have any thoughts?

    Thanks!

2016 was the LCI year, so there are definitely differences. If the 2015 is a SportLine, most of the cosmetic features of the Sport Line became standard to the base 2016 LCI. If you Google 3-Series 2016 LCI changes, I'm sure you'll find a definitive list.

Assuming both of those cars are comparably equipped, I'd lean toward the lower milage car. But if the warranty is important to you, you might want to go with that--CPO on a '16 should take you to 2021 with unlimited mileage. You say "$20-25 range"; but if the '16 is $5K more than the '15, the CPO warranty isn't worth that difference.

The 2016 is pretty much a base model, so they are not comparable. The 2015, as I recall, has the cold weather and technology packages. The 2016, however, has 14 months left on the original warranty, compared to about 11 or 12 on the 2015.

    Thanks for your thoughts!

So at most, there's 3 months difference in warranty? This is pretty much a no-brainer, then.

Speaking of CPO, how important is it to have warranty coverage on these late model BMWs? I purchased a 2016 320i with 20k miles on it 6 months ago and have since added 10k miles. I have about 2 years left on the extended warranty based on my current commute, but not past August 2021.
What is the biggest concern keeping/maintaining the car past 100k miles? Are potential/catastrophic failures so common that it is best to trade for another CPO before the warranty expires? I feel like I'm easy on cars, change oil on or ahead of time, and keep it clean and in the garage when not in use.
My salesperson stated the car will go a million miles if you just do the service as scheduled, and do not be afraid to "push" the car, do not take it easy.
I've been in automotive quality for 30 years, and my impression is that BMW is well ahead of the curve compared to most other manufacturers.
    Your feedback is appreciated!
