381i MANUAL Tonneau cover won't open

Hey all,

I can't seem to get the tonneau cover to pop open. This is for a MANUAL 318ic convertible top/tonneau. So no motors or switches of any kind.

When I pull the release lever located in the rear passenger compartment the driver's side releases but the passenger side does not. I did some research here (most of which is for an automatic or semi auto top configuration). The one thread I found that describes my problem basically said I'm screwed and suggested the only course of action was to cut a hole in the trunk to access the junction box where the bowden cables meet.

I'm hoping that someone may have a better solution.

unfortunately your problem really sucks. I am very familiar with convertibles. It sounds like the cable from the rear center junction is frozen or stuck. The cable from the rear seat goes to the center rear of the tonneau. Here there are two cables leaving. One for each side of the tonneau. Try having someone push down on the passenger side of the tonneau while you try to manipulate the hand cable.
I'm assuming your top is stuck in the up position?
