I picked up this car as a theft recovery. Not sure of the history and what has and hasn't been done. Originally the CCC would boot to the BMW splash screen then continually reboot to the same BMW logo, and there were no chimes. I read for hours and tried all the tricks to bring it back. Along with the rebooting, I would get the SOS warning on the dash. I checked the MOST fiber optic connectors behind the back seat. Unplugged the TCU and used a MOST jumper. I have lights at the OPPS connector in the glove box and at the amp in the trunk.
I pulled out the CCC and opened it up. There was no DVD/Nav disc in the unit. I found a poor silicone repair at the fiber optic connection on the motherboard. I repaired that and reassembled the unit and reinstalled it into the dash. While I had it apart, I notice there was no hard drive in the unit.
I have chimes!!!!! but sadly still reboots. I can hear clicking in the speakers so it looks like the amp is getting signal.
The questions I have are.
1. Does it need the hard drive to boot or does the OS run from firmware?
2. I have read it need the Nav disc to boot... but that doesnt make sense for cars with no Nav.
Here are a couple of pics of the MB.
Hello, seems there is few month since you asked. Just in case if not resolved. Unit for your year dont have HDD. All apps stored on chips, and NAV data taken from DVD, which is also seems might update firmware.
During research of my current issue, I've seen many posts with similar issue like yours, most of them has been resolved by re-soldering capacitors. Sometimes might needed after re-soldering run WinKPF and/or NSC Expert to update CCC modules in certain order.
