Hello all. Quite an odd one but e39 related. I'm in the UK and have fitted a 1996 e39 525tds motor into a 1967 jaguar mk2. I want to use this car 7 days per week and the TDS motor needs very little other than an oil change to get to 250K miles. In addition my original motor did 12mpg and needed servicing every 3k miles. The TDS has lots more BHP than the original car and pretty much double the torque. Its been a long road but its nearly done. A couple of questions for the e39 gurus! The original donor car was an auto. I originally fitted the motor complete with auto box and then couldn't get the box to work due to the lack of abs and speed sensors on a 1967 car! I have it fitted with a 5 speed bmw zf box and need to remove the gearbox ecu. the car runs Ok but is down on power. I have scanned it and the gearbox ecu is saying solenoids 1-5. I would imagine its going into limp mode even though there isn't an auto box fitted. whats the procedure to remove the gearbox ecu and tell the main ecu its a manual car now.
In addition the wiring was a nightmare with most of the e39 wiring removed. I Need to get hold of a good wiring and engine management schematic.I know the Tds wasn't available in the USA.
Fingers crossed I get some replies!
At a minimum you need to get the DME (ecu) reflashed.
If you don't mind my asking, how much of the BMW wiring did you have to use in your swap? I am doing something similar with a Series 3 XJ6 and an S52.
