As far as I know, new stock clutch disks for the 850i/ci/csi are no longer being manufactured anywhere are are now officially impossible to find. I have shopped the entire world online and found none.

Back in the day, there were four aftermarket suppliers that offered disks: HAVAM, LuK, Stahlgruber, and Sachs. All but Sachs quit making them many years ago. All of the BMW OEM disks were made by Sachs. For a while after BMW discontinued them, Sachs continued to make and sell them:
SACHS # 1862442031 (original)
SACHS # 1862396031 (superceded the original)
But Sachs discontinued them entirely a few years ago and they are now impossible to find.
Until recently, I thought the only options for a clutch disk were:
1) buy a “Stage 1” clutch kit from SPEC ($899) http://www.specclutch.com/cars/BMW/850/1992/Single, Exedy (many people in these forums say Exedy has one but I was unable to find it on their site) https://www.exedyusa.com/products/sport-products/, or UUC ($1,900) http://store.uucmotorwerks.com/1989-...s-c577all.aspx . The problems with this option are that they are outrageously expensive, and also they are not anything even close to resembling stock, for those of us who are trying to keep our E31's stock. Or,
2) find a used one, but it is close to impossible to find one with any wear left. Or,
3) use a different clutch (260-265mm from a V-8 BMW, such as an E39 M5 clutch and flywheel): https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...cement-options
I didn't like any of these options. A few days ago, I found a fourth option: have someone rebuild your disk. H.R. Clutches specializes in this, and they say right on their web site "Antique & Obsolete is our SPECIALTY; Foreign & Domestic". From their web site it looks like they are a quality, reputable, knowledgeable company. I contacted them and sent photos of my clutch disk and the specs. He texted me back, "What we have to determine is the thickness each piece of friction material needs to be to get to 9.1mm total thickness. Would you know that spec? My guess is 3.8mm. We should be able to get a 280mm blank piece of friction material with no rivet holes and drill it out to the rivet pattern of the disc. Does anyone have an old disc to send to us to check it out?"
Now that I got my car all torn apart, I found that my clutch disk still has plenty of wear on it so I'm going to throw it back in for the next few years. But I told the guy I would post this to the forum and was pretty sure someone would eventually contact him about it. So if you need a new clutch disk, call him up and send him your old one and see if he can rebuild it!

Reviving an old thread! Has anyone tried this company. I am addressing an upper oil pan leak. Unfortunately, my flywheel has some hot spots, so I am going to try to have it resurfaced. Looking for a new clutch has been difficult and I don’t want some racing clutch in the car. I am open to any suggestions.
thanks
James

Thanks guys! I am going to take the advice and get a spec stage 1 clutch the one Summit and LMP have listed for my 91 850 6spd is SB271 verses SB011. I will call them to clarify. Took the flywheel to the machine shop this morning.

Can you confirm the flywheels for the S70 were all single mass and the 840 were Dual Mass?
