I own a 1996 e36 328is and P0121 code keeps coming on. I replaced the TPS and it did not go away. I cleaned the throttle body with carb cleaner. The previous owner installed custom exhaust and downpipe leaving the catalytic converters in but deleting the muffler. I have done research and there seems to be other possible things affecting and making the P0121 code go on. I have heard that once the car has no codes the 02 sensors will be able to adjust since the codes that have popped up are affecting smog. I took the other codes to a shop and were able to resolve them but I am still not able to pass smog which I need to do to transfer the title to my name. What could be affecting the car to set off the P0121 code.

Was the car originally an auto swapped to a 5spd?

No car stock is 5sp manual
Well since your not the original owerner I would use your VIN to check what was factory on your car to make sure it was indeed a 5spd from the factory. There are some sites like BMW vin or something like that.
Also here are all the e36 threads that use the term P0121.

I checked the vin number and the car is a manual stock. Could it be something electrical or mechanical
