I have a 2007 BMW 3.0. Engine started to run rough at idle and brought it to a local mechanic.#2 coil was replaced, ran good for a few weeks. Started to run rough again a few weeks later, had another shop replace all six coils. Still ran rough at idle. Took it to Auto zone and used their reader, #2 coil misfiring. So, I changed all six plugs, and replaced the#2 coil. Still running like garbage. I did have the battery replaced about a month ago, supposingly was "programmed" for the car, could this be it? Not sure if it is upstream to what ever controls the firing signal, but code reader just points to #2 coil misfiring. Anyone experienced the same?
Was there any oil in the spark plug well? If there is , it could be shorting out the spark from the coil. Oil would be from a failed gasket.

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.
Fuel, air, spark, timing. If the same cylinder is misfiring and you have replaced plugs and coils, I’d start looking at the fuel injector. You can swap injectors or send all of them out for cleaning/testing. The MAF sensor and O2 sensors can cause faulty information to be sent to the ECU, which affects all of the above.
Well, changed valve cover gasket, cleaned up everything, ran great for a couple days, tonight, back to the rough idle. Autozone code says #2 coil, but it is evident that isn't it, next is swap the injector.
