pick-n-pull. How much could you carry?

So a local a pick-n-pull is having an $85 all you can carry sale. You can only use your body to carry items, and you gotta be able to carry for 10 yards. This is mostly just for fun, but I plan on going to one and I'm curious to see how you guys would handle it.

I'm in the market for a trunk lid, front doors, front bumper cover, headlights, and whatever else sounds good.

I'm thinking headlights, trunk lid, and bumper cover in one trip, and then 2 front doors on trip 2. I'm thinking the trunk lid first and then use it as a cradle for the bumper cover and headlights. Front doors might be able to be carried if I could get the windows down.

What would you be looking for and how would you go about it?

    Here are the rules.

Trip 1 should be interesting, that's a lot of stuff.
    Good luck.

Sounds do-able. Ten yards isn't that bad at all.

Ha, I had a friend do this. I think it was only like five feet to carry. He carried a Datsun 240 Z motor out.
He pulled the motor then took seat belts hooked to the engine. Used them as shoulder straps and carried it out between his legs.
They were pissed at first, but let him keep it.

    Genius!

Top tip. E39 Sedan battery cover panels are useless.... But make amazing shopping baskets I once carried an entire suspension (with shocks) and interior bits in it.

    But if teams are allowed....

Step 1. Hope there is a well done 6spd 540i
Step 2. Get 4-6 friends.. better if you have gym friends to lift the car.
    Step 3. Profit!

Haha! Great stories! Keep them coming!

According to their website they only have a single bmw on their lot, a 2001 525i. So there's still a good chance I'll may end up getting nothing at all.

All Fenders, Bumpers, Hoods, and Doors are on sale at Pick-N-Pull through today for $25 per also. I didn't see the all you can carry $85 sale on the website or via Toolkit Rewards emails. Best suggestion I have is maybe bring some foam so if you do sling stuff from your shoulders you have some padding.

Hmmm, that's a tough one. I used to be a regular back in the E28 days, made a lot of trips there. But now? I don't think I've been in a year. Price increases with adds saying lower prices took a toll, you may have expenses, but don't BS me, but mostly BMWs are harder to upgrade with small stuff now, not to mention I'm not as into it. But all you can carry, $85, hmmmm...

Lets see, how many ECU's could I carry?

We have the exact same thing near me except it's 65 bucks. I my buddies and I used to do it every year as much for the bragging rights as for the parts. I once carried out an aluminum volvo 1.8 with the turbo... bout died

I wish the local yard had more interesting cars, I'd totally grab some DMEs. Teams wouldn't be a bad option for pulling a motor. Pulling one by yourself and carrying it definitely earns you bragging rights.

I went to the all you can carry sale yesterday. They only had a single e39 and everything on my list was pretty much gone. I was able to get the following for $85 though. Really the only thing I needed was the trunk lid. The rest is for experimenting.

Interior trim, minus the large center base part because it was destroyed.
    Rear sub-frame
    Non-sport front bumper cover
    Trunk lid.

Not to shabby for $85. What are you going to be experimenting on with the subframe??
(I haven't forgot about your LED mod, just been kinda busy on the '33 interior wiring lately)

I eventually plan to ls swap the car (LY6), but I don't want to be forced to use the m5 diff. Right now I'm thinking a Ford 8.8? with 4:10 gears mated to a T56. I'm probably still years away though.

I'd also like to measure the rear subframe with the cmm and share the data with the swap community. I gotta figure out how to use the cmm first.

No worries about the led project. I have a bunch of projects in front of that one anyway.

    4.10's are pretty steep.
Guess the OD ratio of the T56 must be pretty low, .70 or less?
My LS3 in the hotrod has the Ford 8.8 LSD.

You've got a CMM machine, nice!

I loaded the car with a trunk lid, 2 fenders, a whole wiring, headlights, brake calipers for all corners, rear subframe, steering rack, alternator, starter, 2 empty 5l coolant jugs full of hardware, all door trim panels, and my full set of tools. It was funny. Get the lid on the rear seat, license plate side down and top skin resting against the back of the rear seats, then load everything on top.

Doors you won't be able to load them in the car, you need a touring or a truck to do so.
    Diehard E39 driver.
I'd rather die or take a walk before driving an E60 or any BMW made after Y2K.

From what I've been reading, 410 with the T56 seems to be a common trend with turbo setups. It would be cool if I had a CMM, but no, it's the one at work. I'll just have to spend some time after hours screwing around with it until I can figure out how to get the measurements I need. I used to run one years ago, but I never actually learned how to program it. The concept seems simple though.

Man, that's a lot. My buddy has an Astrovan, so we just used that to transport the goods.

Sounds like fun. I can see some clever folks fully exploiting this. Pretty sure I could carry a BMW manual gearbox under each arm for that distance.
"items can be set down during the ten yard carry"
Perhaps a loophole. Can you say "relay"

8.8 fits nicely in an E39 subframe. Not too much cutting is required.

Jim, I run 4.10 Ford gears. My T56 has dual OD gears 0.74 and 0.50.

I was actually just reading through your picture-less thread earlier at work.

I was mostly skimming the text. Did you mention where you got your axles from?

Sucks that the pic links are dead. I do still have the pics so can send a couple if you need.

Hmm. All the ancient five speed gearboxes I've dealt with are only 70# or so wet. I carried two bundles of shingles up a ladder in my youth so pretty sure I could still do ONE 6 spd in a pinch.
