Im replacing trans mount with stock items. The originals and replacements are both original BMW parts but replacements have alum not rubber locating tabs which face up.
Can someone tell me if I have the orientation correct here? There are is a male/female relief/ tab on the side that faces the carrier and to my knowledge this is the only possible orientation but would like to confirm. There is only one part number no l/r.

Garagistic sells HD rubber mounts and notes that the alum tabs are to be ground off. That is not the part I purchased but it looks very similar. Is this in case were the same part number applies to many BMWs the e30 does not use the aluminum tabs?
Strange, the original BMW ones i removed/replaced from my Getrag 260 were both facing outwards. The first picture and the mount of the left was installed in mine. It made sense to me, since the tabs on the transmission bracket matched both mounts perfectly.
Looking more closely at the originals that I removed it’s clear from the weat patterns that the locating tabs which face up both faced rear. I suppose what that means is that the locating tab that touches the crossmember does not engage the embossed tab on the crossmember on both mounts. Both of the originals and the replacements behave the same way in this regard

it seems that way. I did mine like you had your first pic, up top of the thread, just because of the alignment tangs on the cross member. I have always done it that way with one of the buttons on the rubber mounts facing in and one facing out. I don't think it matters though because they are not going to spin either way, once the buttons touch the side if the slot in the trans
No e30s again.
Im leaning to the opposite (my last pic) because the new style alum not rubber tabs would seem to dictate an off kilter alignment were we to use the tabs in the x-member instead of ignoring them.
