2019 X1 28i xDrive Review and First Look in 4K

Finally got to drive the new 2019 X1! Had my E39 in for service at our local BMW dealership and received the 28i as a complementary loaner vehicle. The customer service at BMW of Bridgeport is very, very good.

The 28i xDrive is currently $399/mo as of the BMW USA website.

However, the 2018 28i xDrive is only $319/mo which seems like a pretty good monthly for what you get.

Of course, there are many variables that go into evaluating a lease deal such as the rates, residual, depreciation, total cost, and so on. But at a glance, the 2018 model seems to be a good rate right now for those in the X1 market.

We have a neighbor who just moved from an E84 which she loved, to an F48, and she doesn't like the new car quite as much, although I haven't gotten the details, but if I do I'll try to remember to comment back here.

Worth noting the F48 2.8Xdriveblahblah is really basically a Clubman AWD. A Mini in a BMW costume.
    FWD-platform-AWD all the way really.
The old one was more like an E90 xDrive with the "Mini-related" BMW engine in a 'CUV' package.
    RWD-platform-AWD.

Sounds like the 'Eco' setting is about the same though: in the old car also it certainly feels like a dog with it on. If you read owner reports BTW it seems pretty ineffective. Many seem to say that Eco doesn't work very well or even at all - aka you get less power but not particularly better gas mileage, and some have reported maybe even worse MPG. I guess its down to the old 'more efficient to accelerate quickly / briefly and settle into cruise than to accelerate slowly for a long time' thing. We have ours permanently off although if we're on the highway for extended periods and it occurs to us we might push the button, although honestly I doubt that does much of anything since I think you're just sitting in 8th gear the whole time either way.

BTW this made me notice BimFo doesn't have the F48 chassis code broken out into a separate forum or even listed!
Not surprising, as the E84 X1 forum gets about a post every 2 months, not a real enthusiast platform... if the E84 doesn't get posts we're unlikely to ever see an F48 poster here...
