I just found a 1997 840ci with 55k miles.
What’s the true value?
Which options are troublesome?

Depends how clean the car is.

Without being a wise guy, it's value is what one is willing to pay. If the asking is more than what you are willing to pay, negotiate or walk away. You can also look at the sold cars on Bring a Trailer. I have seen them sell for $7500.00 and for over $20,000.00. But as is the case with the car you are looking at, there is the condition, the depth of you wallet, how badly you want it, and how badly the seller wants it gone.
manual or auto ? don't know in the US but sure makes a big difference in Europe.... a manual go's easely 20 % more.....
Depends on how many problems it has.
It’s auto transmission

Still depends on what condition the car is in the miles could be low that’s a plus but if the car is dogged it will effect value. I would buy a 8 sight unseen just a tip for you good luck in your search.

We just got back from Sharkfest, and there are excellent resources in the Atlanta area that can evaluate the car if you so choose. As said above, the condition will directly impact the value. As with any 22 year old car, maintenance is the key.
Good luck.
