My 2018 sport wagon 328 xi diesel is nearing end of its warranty period. It has been a problem free vehicle and I enjoy driving it. Plan to keep the car 6-8 years and typically put on 15k miles a year. I usually don't even think about buying an extended warranty but am considering it with this car given the cost of (possible) repairs. Apologize in advance if there is a forum on this topic. I looked and could not find it. What are your thoughts on the value of an extended warranty for diesels in particular? Many thanks
Small correction, its a 328xd.
The N47 diesel engine and components have been very reliable. The few issues that can happen are covered by goodwill warranty:
High pressure fuel pump covered to 120k/10 year. Problems happen when you put low quality diesel in it. Avoid cheap junk stations. It's not worth it.
NOx sensors are on extension. Diesel particulate matter sensor is extended too.
EGR cooler issues had been resolved by your year production.

Thanks. This is very helpful. Will probably not buy extended warranty. Was shocked at the wide range in prices ($10,000- $3500) for comparable coverages. Will set the money aside, buy quality diesel (although in rural NH that is a challenge) and otherwise maintain the car. Appreciate your feedback.
