Top latch

I am new to the forum, so first Hello. I have a 96 Z3, when I went to put the top down this morning the drivers side release would not totally open. It starts to open and partially drop down but the handle will stop about half way between open and closed. The right latch operates properly. I had thought about spraying the latching assembly with silicon spray. Has anyone heard of this before.

Sorry to be so long getting back I ended up taking the car to the local top shop and the got it open for me. It just took some one to know where to push down and release the pressure and they just poped it open or me. It was caused by me whe trying to put the top up in the dark and in a hurry. The paw that hooks over the bar in the windshield was behind the bar instead of being hooked on the bar. To release it he applied pressure over that point and it released. I won't do that again.
