So sadly a new Lexus SUV hit me head-on yesterday and my beloved 2001 E38 Sport is totaled. I walked away with a sprained left wrist and the other poor lady had to be cut out and airlifted with 2 broken legs.
So I need a replacement car. Had 1987 535is that I loved and looking to get back into a 5er. I LOVE V8’s but don’t know about the 550’s much. Any advise? I’m prettty handy and worked on my Bimmers the last 15 years so not afraid of wrenching but I’ve got kids and time is not always abundant. Looking at 2010-2015.
Thanks for any advise/comments!

Glad that you were able to walk away mostly unscathed...but sad to see the loss of what looks like a really nice e38.
In regards to BMW V8s...the proceeding V8 issues are well documented with what to expect or look out for (N62/N62TU/N63). The "safest" next V8 (or should I say less troublesome V8) seems to be the N63TU...which came with the 2014 f15 5 series...it debuted in 2013 for the 6 & 7 series (not sure which year it appeared in the X5)...but again a simple google search for each of the aforementioned BMW V8s should bring up enough prior conversations, threads, write-ups etc to give you an idea if it something you want to buy or skip and go back to the inline 6.
Do you know why/how the lady ran into you? I hope she wasn't waiting for some new tech nanny to kick in to either stop her car or kick in to warn her of impending collision...or was she distracted by talking on her phone?

Don't get a v8. If you must have one, definitely get one with the N63TU model. There's a class action lawsuit over the older N63. It's junk, absolute garbage. The TU is only marginally better.
