LCM From E38 to E38

Hello all,
I have a 1997 740IL with an LCM II and would like to know if it will work (obviously with coding of vin and mileage, which seems to be a bone of contention whether the mileage needs to be done or not) in my 1998 740I that also had an LCM II
I would think it would work without issue, but then again.. That theory of assumption has bitten more than once in my life time..

I've done this on a '96 to see if a LCM was good from parts car. I could not find anything that did not work properly with the replacement. You will get a tamper dot without coding but it will not affect how the LCM works. I've seen other say they have had a few things not work with a swap but I didn't have any issues using the same type LCM. Just my experience.

Well sure enough, I took the LCM and plugged it into the 98. And voila, the warning messages , blinkers on cluster, bright indicator are all working again.I do have the tamper dot, but that should be easily fixed with a recode of the VIN to the LCM...I wasnt sure if just plugging it in would hurt anything on the car. What seems to be the software of choice to perform this step.
I have INPA , NCS_Expert , etc from BMW Standard Tools. But have been reading alot of users state PASoft Bmw Scanner 1.4 is the easiest way to go..

PASoft 1.4 works well.
It can be PITA to load onto your computer, though...

Second PASoft for being easy to use (especially LCM coding) and install. Happy to share the resources I used for loading it on my laptop.

I'm interested as well, I have a 750i E38 1997 that I need to code an LCM for, as well as code *out* some removed modules (NAV, DSP, etc)
