Not strange at all. BMW makes one instrument cluster for all the 5-series. Then each vehicle is coded/programmed, and only the features the car has will illuminate. Why make ten different clusters when you can make one? Simple cost savings.
Ditto...and that icon is not just the Lane Departure warning...it is also part of the collision warning (with city mitigation depending on production build date), and ACC (adaptive cruise control) icon, too.
The lane departure icon illuminates the outer dashed lines and the two arrows on the left and right (read the description in the owners manual to learn when the lines and arrows appear).
The collision warning (or city warning with city mitigation)...illuminates the car (in red) as part of a visual and/or visual and audible alert if the cameras or radar detects a possible collision.
If you have ACC...then the icon of the"rear end of a car, inner solid lines, and horizontal lines in the center illuminate when ACC is set and when you adjust the distance to the car ahead that you want to select. Again, turn to your owners manual for more details as to how to initiate ACC and set the distance ahead to the car in front of you.
