Been looking at 2012-2015 models of M3 and M5, and generally (not all) they are priced the same from $35k-$45k. Is there a reason why the M5 doesn't sell for more? there are way more m3s produced than m5s right. so whats the deal?
M5 out of warranty has a reputation for being expensive to maintain so the prices on cars with little to no warranty reflects that risk. I remember the same thing in 2010 when I was looking for a used E90M3 — I could have bought a used E60 M5 for about the same money. The E60 M5 has a reputation for being expensive to maintain. Good opportunity if you can DIY.
Comparing the two cars in practical use I can't imagine why anyone would want a F80 M3 over a F10 M5. M3/4 will always be the boy racer car, the M5 is for adults that still want that performance.
F10 M5's are very reasonable to upkeep in my opinion, very little goes wrong with them. Sure brakes and tires suck, but that aside its hard not to love a tuned 800hp daily driver that stomps the ever living hell out of most anything you come across all while maintaining comfort and room for five.
