Are you sure the car has one installed...most come from the factory wired but the alarm is an add on for later, similar situation as the phone...depending on the year...

It is the same situation as with 3-series from the same era. Unless specifically ordered, these models didn't come with an alarm. I added the siren (goes against the back wall inside engine bay) and the missing alarm sensors to my X3. Now the car beeps when locking/unlocking, but the alarm does not work yet. I think some module still needs to be recoded.
