ive got an m30 sitting in an e34 and was wondering if anyone knew if installing them would cause clearance issuses against the firewall when trying to remove the head?

Not sure I understand what you are asking.

You have a e34 535i, so it has the m30b35. What are you adding to it?

You can access all of the head bolts while the engine is in the car.

That's a very good question. You could double-nut the studs such that they behave as bolts, and drop the rear studs into the head on the bench before placing it on the block. Then drive the studs into the block, remove the jamb nuts, and continue. Same thing in reverse to remove the head.

    Nice solution.

So how would you lock the rocker shafts in place with studs? They will not likely move with studs, but they could move and that would be bad news.

wouldnt turning them into bolts would would kind of defeat the purpose? besides you need a socket on it because if the 12 point nut. do arp head studs have special thread on the nut side?

That was just a temporary step for unthreading the studs from the block before lifting the head off so you don't have to lift the head up the full length of the studs, which will most likely have interference issues at the firewall per your original concern. You're right, ARP head studs have a funky 12-sided flange nut which would make it difficult. The studs have a 5mm hex socket on the tips. Ordinarily they are only loosely threaded into the block. If whoever installed them used Loctite, you would likely need to double-nut them to remove them. I believe the head end of the studs are conventional M12x1.5 threads, so you could get a pair of regular hex nuts to double-nut them if need to remove the studs.
