Greetings from Memphis TN! Just got a 2002 BMW Z3, my alarm systems does not work at all. It does have an after market radio and I pulled it only to find the alarm system slot where the original radio set was zip tied. So I know that's ruled out at least. Any insight on where to go next?

If any of the switches (doors, hood, trunk, radio) fail, you will get three chirps when you try to lock your car with the fob. If you don't get the chirps (and the alarm horn is working) you have another issue with the alarm.

It has an alarm button on the key fob. But idk for sure.

Ran my VIN, only thing I saw close to an Alarm was Radio BMW Business Cd Rds. So I'm assuming it doesn't have one. Just have the option on the key fob. Anyone know what it will say if you run you VIN?Originally Posted by khammack

Not sure, but I think the 2001 & 02 Z3s came with key fob locking as standard, but the alarm was an option.

Do you have a siren under the hood and a red led in the dash ? If not then no alarm. They were usually dealer installed options I believe. The alarm remotes are a separate fob from the key.

Well, if you don't have a 17 year old alarm in there, consider yourself lucky. What is the purpose of a car alarm? The last thing anyone thinks when they hear one is "that's my car making that noise." The second to last thing anyone thinks is "ah, a car alarm--someone must be steeling a car--I'll take appropriate action." I live across the street from a parking lot in an urban active night life area--I wish none of them had car alarms. Of the several that go off every night, I have only ever seen one car actually being stolen (I hid--they were armed), and have never seen the police respond to one. The first thing I do to any car I get is disable the alarm. End rant.
